This blog is a work diary for my own reference but also for others to see the processes I use to create my pieces.
I describe the materials and techniques I use to create chenille scarves, nuno felt scarves, shibori scarves and jackets, beaded fiber pins, and dyed resisted and discharged jackets. To see more of my work, please visit my website at http://www.CarolFurtado.com.
"Color has always been the prime focus of my work. It had been very important in my painting, and when I realized I could achieve even richer color, and texture as well, in weaving, I knew I had found my medium." Carol Furtado received her BFA in painting and ceramics from the University of Michigan.
During her three-and-a-half decades as a fiber artist, Carol has acquired a strong reputation as a creator of distinctive wearable art. A dramatic palette of colors uniquely characterizes her work. Currently she is creating handwoven jackets, hats, berets, and scarves; beaded and embroidered pins; and knitted and wrapped necklaces. Her newest work includes dyed and discharged jackets and felted pieces.
